This was a job I had a done for a great long time customer of mine a couple of years ago. These are all items that were her dad's when he was a baby. He was born in 1913. She brought it back in as she found the last missing item...a lock of his hair from his first hair cut.

I love doing jobs like this, when you not only are doing something for customers that you are fond of, but you get the honor of seeing their special family memento's. After I touch up the pic some, this one is going on the web site with a nice testimonial she wrote about my shop.

Beautiful job. I love doing this kind of work too. I did two of these for a husband and wife for Christmas.
They were baby items from the late 40s.

Hey Steph: Beautiful job. I'm going to copy it on a job that just came in.

Is there an inscription on the back? I try to work with customers to place names and dates somewhere, so when it gets passed down, the history goes with it.

Is the frame a deep profile, or did you build it up?

That's a deep single moulding, a LJ frame...I think it's from the Allegra series, and fillets around each photo. I'm not at the shop now, but I do think I used the Attach-Ez.

Its hard to see in the photo Ted, but the back of the box the lock of hair was saved in, has an inscription someone in the family wrote saying who it was and the year they were born.

Here is a job that I didn't want to be limited by shadowbox selection and extended the depth of the frame by milling what I needed and finishing the sides. I have done maybe 3 dozen antique feather fans for this customer over the years and this was one of my favorites. It is so subtle and delicate. It's mounted on silk and each feather is hand twirled.

Both are a great combination of design and materials. I'll bet the customers were very pleased.

Steph,
Absolutely beautiful. I do have a few baby items, both older ones and newer from my own kids. I will borrow from your design!

I also loved the feathered fan. Must have taken you hours to get it like this!

Thanks everyone! Ignore Randy, Jared...I usually do :p.

Very nice composition, Steph.

If you were here - or if I were there - I'd be bowing in your honor!! Fabulous job, Steph!! Awesome work.

Steph, that is just fantastic. It's beautiful, as everyone has already said. Perfect mat and frame choice, and the layout has a great flow. I really love how you struck a good balance between the precise linear shapes in the piece and those that are more free form.

Beautiful design, layout, and execution. Bravo! Is that a BevelAccent just below the beaded fillet on the border mat? I like the way that whole thing is lifted by recessed spacers. It creates a nice sense of depth with a subtle shadow all around.
Just out of curiosity, what is the overall size, what was the time factor for the labor on this job, and what did it retail for?
 Rick

Beautiful job!

We've been meaning to make one like this for the shop- just have to find some items worth presenting!

Sorry Rick, I meant to look this up when I got in this morning. I'll check tomorrow. Because I originally did it 2 years ago I just do not recall.
No Bevel Accents, that is all fillet. I'm going to say its about a 24x28...I'm guessing.

Thanks everyone, I really loved this job and I was proud of the results. I was nervous adding the lock of hair and box in, since when I originally did it I wasn't sure just how much space I would need. Moving already tacked down items was the last thing I wanted to do. ;)
