Just recieved another one. Photo on canvas stretched on wrong side of stretcher frame. In other words with the lip down and not under ther canvas. I was always taught that the lip went up to limit the amount of contact between canvas and wood stretcher . Am I wrong!!! I cannot remember recieving a photo prestretched that isn't done this way. even by the so called large manufacturers.

You are right, the lip goes directly under the canvas, not on the back, I have seen strecherbars with lips on both sides or even three sides, so unless that is the case, they are putting them on upside down

There is one exception to the lip up. Some photographers are getting the stuff mounted to masonite or another hardboard and leaving excess canvas. The canvas is then wrapped around the bars. If it is only canvas and has actually been stretched it is wrong and should be reversed.
And Framerbob is right about checking to see if it is a double lip bar. You can lightly press down near the edge to find out but gently so it doesn't deform the canvas.
