Default Time to break in a new LJ rep again

Just got a email from LJ that Mark Clark has left the company. They have moved someone else over. Any one have any dealings with Gary Hansgen?
I know this market is tough, but I would think that they should be able to keep reps for more then just a few years. This is my 6th different rep since I have owned the business and for about 1/3 of that time, I didn't have a rep at all from LJ.

Larson put a new rep in the NY after moving Steve Rella down to Florida. The new rep visited once, when she first started, now all she does is send out emails.

I agree Randy, although I did get dinner at Morton's one year from my former LJ rep that became a suit in the company.

Funny thing was that she was a vegetarian.

I just got a call today from a new rep too. She's coming in on Tuesday. No mention of food, however. In fact, no rep has ever offered me food since I had lunch with the late great Harvey Eisenstodt of Art-o-Rama and Ivy back in around 1980-something. He was a great guy, and longtime friend of Vivian Kistler.

His son Mike is not such a bad guy either.

Nope. Not at all. I haven't seen Mike in years. Do you see him? I think he reps for a number of office supply companies, calling on campus bookstores and the like.
    Rick

Gumby, does Mike rep any of the products you sell?

Going back over 30 years, and starting with Juhl-Pacific and Shannen Murphy, I can only remember three since then, and each stayed for many years. All have been excellent and food has definitely been involved!

If your reps don't take you out to lunch, take them! I try to get to know our better reps and knowing a bit more about them makes me appreciate their hard work even more. It's a two way street.

I started a thread awhile back for appreciating your rep day.
Pick a day and invite them to lunch or dinner, take the whole crew out and have a blast!!
The whole point was to get to know your rep and really appreciate what they do for you, before its too late.

Dave - I wondered why I hadn't heard from Mark. But I haven't received any notices about him leaving yet -- then again, for some reason, I usually don't find out until the "new" rep calls and wants to come in to check out my walls. It's this way with most companies I use. I've given up even trying to keep them straight, as I don't think I've ever seen any rep form any supplier more than twice!

Yeah, I think I only remember 4 or so reps over the last 15 years of working in a few shops. One of them wasn't around very long but the others all have been 'old-timers' (in the sense that they've been with LJ for quite a while).

Wonder if Berkeley and the far East Bay are part of the same territory.

    Thumbs up Variables...

Just like framing employees in our shop, we have gone though stints, where employees came and went like a revolving door and other times when stability was the norm....luck, timing, the ecomomy, etc all factor in.

Our current Larson Juhl rep, Mary Lindberg has been with LJ and served as our rep for at least 12-14 years. She is excellent, polite, professional. Covering NE Wisconsin, I know that her terriotory was expanded and I would guess that this has probably been the case for most reps over the last two years.

I have a very nice email rep now but I have not seen a blood and bones LJ rep in more years than I can count. No food has ever been involved with any reps from any company.

They feed you? You feed them? Far out!!!

Randy, have you asked for one? I am not trying to be snarky, but you or any other framer won't get one with out asking for it. The worse they can say is no. Just like when our customers ask for one, if the job warrants one they just might get one.

I don't envy a moulding reps job. There are fewer reps, larger territories and smaller expense accounts. They have to work 10 times harder for a job that already had them running. Their visit times in many cases have shrunk....they have to try and fit in as much as they can.

One of my closest and dearest friend is a rep in our industry. She usually will stay overnight with us when she is coming through this part of her territory. So I have seen more from her side than most get to. I have no idea how she does. She hustles! She's the most organized multi-tasker I have ever seen.

Food is always involved! My home is her home. She is barely in the door and goes right to the kitchen and starts cooking us dinner. We always bicker about this. I want her to come in and relax, but she is a ball of energy. So a great meal , bottle of wine, hang out with kids and catch up. Lots of laughing.

That rare relationship aside. I am with Randy. Show me the discount!!

I deal with Gary on a daily basis, I am a huge pain in his butt. lol! He's a fantastic rep, extremely helpful, and worth his weight in gold. He never feeds me, though. Maybe I'll have to chat with him about that....

Or they don't give you any further price break, but try and steal the job for themselves, knowing what your moulding costs are.
Yes, it's happened to me and other frame shops I know.

Donna was my rep for a few years before they switched me to Margie (some error on LJ's part--gave her accounts no where near where she lives so to help her out, they gave her some closer to home). I used to see Donna in the warehouse all the time before she went out on the road as a rep. Great gals, both of them--couldn't ask for better reps.
