    Default old crochet blanket

I have a 70 year old crocheted bedspread in need of some tender loving repair. Does anyone know where I can go or who I can contact to get it repaired before I do anything else with it?

    Thanks in advance!

You might go to a yarn shop. They have customers who have done this sort of thing for years. Who better than the women who made them to begin with? Or a textile conservator, if you have one in your area.

Thanks Val. Actually its not made out of yarn. it's some kind of thread, like they use for doilies. I'll try the local yarn shop tho...and just thought about I might be able to find someone in the textile dept at the university. thanks for letting me think out loud.

That's what I thought it probably was too, and they sell that type of "vintage" crochet thread at yarn shops. I bought a very old one at an antique shop a couple years ago....tiny granny squares made out of that "thread"...very delicate. It was beautiful, but very "well-loved" and I spent hours repairing it myself.....I used to crochet in another life. My mom had a bag full of that same thread from my grandmother's cedar chest. I hate to think what I would've charged someone to do that, whew!

Keep us posted what you find out, I'm curious to know! And then post a picture!

Thanks Val I will. My great grandmother crocheted it for my mother's wedding present in 1941. I remember my mom fixing it a couple of times and the last time I remember she had trouble finding the right kind of thread. Can't ask her now, she's been gone almost 8 years.
I'll have to check the textile dept to see about cleaning it too. I'll let you know.

    Thanks,
