Which offsets, the "Z" shaped clips used to install canvases into frames among other uses do you prefer, the clips with one hole or the clips with holes at each end?

Absolutely, by far, without doubt, definitely, unquestionably, certainly, the 2-holer.

Don't use the inner hole as a rule, but, boy, when they're needed, do they come in handy!

2 holes. I use them for more than just canvas stuff. :popc:

While rarely used the 2 hole is a nice feature.

    2 hole

I don't always use it, but at least it's an option

Two hole good. One hole bad.

I don't always use Z clips but when I do I use the two holer. :icon9:

And for a contrary opinion, I'll go with the 2-holer. :icon19:

I prefer the 2 holes version as well.

While you're at it, how about a 5/8" offset? It seems they are made in every size BUT that one, and it also seems we need that one size a lot!

Rob, you are absolutely right. I've often run across times where a 5/8" offset would be perfect!

How about a flat one with 2 holes. The usual flat plates from Home Depot are too long and the offset lengths are perfect.

I like the idea of flat ones - I frequently turn into a smithy and pound them flat on my vise platform. But they have that lumpy look, no matter how I pound.

    5/8" would be great too!!!

I have also done the "smithy" thing.
I take the offsets outside and hammer them to the shape that I need using the concrete parking curb stops in the parking lot as my anvil.

2 holes are always better than one! :kaffeetrinker_2:

I use 'plumbers tape' , the metal strips with holes in them and cut them to any size that I need. You can bend them too if needed.

    THIS! Please!!!

And re the conversation about flat offset clips, why doesn't somebody just make shorter mending plates?

    These are available from United:

But they're way long for the purposes of which we speak.

Thanks Peter. I see the new clips have 2 holes in the new flyer.

For sure 2 holes. There's never a case when having 2 holes is bad, but there are many cases where having 2 is good. I rarely have to use the 2nd hole, but I've had more occasions to find it useful lately, especially with floater frames. It's annoying to have to drill a hole in my offset clips myself (or to pay someone to do it for me). I try to purchase only 2 hole versions of clips these days.
