The challenge of carving a frame for someone is one I enjoy, even with all of its uncertainties! I was approached by a client who had recently purchased an 8" x 10" painting by Anthony Thieme, a Dutch American artist from early 20th. century. The painting is on a panel and he really didn't care for the frame so sent me an image of a frame he did like. This one was a much larger painting so the design was modified to fit the frame material I had. Speaking of frame material, I couldn't find a suitable molding that would give me enough panel area to carve in so bit the bullet, designed my own profile, and had 100' of it milled here in Phoenix. It's 4" wide and 1 3/8" thick. In any case, thought I'd share it with you on the Grumble. The full picture is one the client sent me with the actual painting, the corner detail is an in-progress picture I took in my shop using a scanned image. It's composition gold with a yellow undercoat later toned with oil paints. I blogged most of the construction of this frame, here's a link to my posts: https://woodworksbyjohn.wordpress.c...e=post&action=-1&m=0&cat=0&paged=1&action2=-1 OceanWavesClient - 1.jpg OceanWavesCornerDetail - 1 (1).jpg

Sorry about that simply matted! Maybe because it's cached on my computer but I came up with the blog listings about that frame. Try this one: https://woodworksbyjohn.com/2016/12/15/ocean-waves-frame-progress/ it's one of the main blogs on how the frame developed -- John
