Just sent an e-mail ending in @comcast.net, and it was answered by a stranger with the same prefix info, but ending in @mac.com. I went to my sent file to be sure, and it really did head out with the first prefix. How could that happen?

The original user of the address gave it up, and the new owner has it forwarded to his address @mac.com

(just one possibility I can think of)

The other possibility is that the user just had the email forwarded from one address to another.

I do that with several emails. Some of my emails from thePaperFramer get bounced by some of the generic email providers so I have email addresses at yahoo, aol and others so I can send emails to those providers. When I get email at those addresses, they are automatically forwarded to thePaperFramer.

Except she said it was a "stranger" who replied. I assume that means that the responder had no idea what the original email was about, and was not the intended recipient.
