Just finished this up in time for it to be given from my customer to her husband for his Birthday. I have no idea who this singer is, but hey I think it turned out cool. She insisted on mat black mats but I was able to talk her into a frame that was a little more interesting. The album cover is sink mounted and the LP is attached with a clear 2 part screw fastener. The 45 is held in place with 3M VHB tape after discussing different options with her. Since it is unsigned, she doesn't feel it will ever have much value and wasn't really worried about preservation of it.

So told her "I'd have to see it."

The funniest part was I told her she had this done in Southern California
in the late 1970s at Jerry Soloman's, when she only had it halfway out of
the bag. I only had to see the front of the frame, and the mat.

She was speechless.

My boss, knowing me, said "tell her the rest'.

I told her who made the frame, and who painted it... and admired that she
had taken such good care of it these past 35 years. Other than the water
damage and cracked glass.

Maybe hide glue wasn't the right thing to use on the decorative paper back
then, but it was what we used then .... but a light sanding and it was time
for the rice starch. . . inch by inch.
Paint an inch, lay and burnish. Paint an inch, lay and burnish. Mind numbing, but
rewarding.
After having one piece of glass break, she had opted for Optium Museum Acrylic.
She'll bring the rest of the collection in when my arm is better... but at least I
got out, and she has her favorite piece back.

The replacement top mat looks very stark here, but it actually matches the art paper.

Tedious work, but soothing for a caged up bear....

Luckily, Dave Makielski had given me a large paw full of packets of
different bronzing powders. Including the Roman Bronze that is
no longer available.

Again.. I'm so blessed to have amazing clients. This one happened to be a refferal from our very own Larry Peterson here on the G . Thanks you so...

Again.. I'm so blessed to have amazing clients. This one happened to be a refferal from our very own Larry Peterson here on the G . Thanks you so much for the heads up.

So my customer contacted me over the phone. She wanted something creative for her son's first published article in this magazine called "Fly". Sight unseen I told her to send me the magazine and I would come up with something....

When I got it in the mail I was excited to see these rather beautiful black and white photos of microscopic insects... blown up 1000's of times... so that you could see the little hairs and textures...I didnt try to read the text.. there were word that had every letter in the alphabet in them!!

At this point, my brain was going 100 miles an hour. The customer didnt really give me anything to go on..... other than CREATIVE...
Does she want all the pages in one frame...... just the cover ETC?????
So I had to come up with some kind of design.

My first thought was SCREEN material...... had the perfect texture I had in mind but being made of nylon, I wasnt sure how to wrap it around the openings and make it straight because I knew it can be stretchy.

I had already commited to using some kind of rustic crudded up frame in black and then greys for the matting and then raising the mat so when you looked into the opening it was kinda like looking into a microscope??

SO I was shopping one day...... and came across this amazing ribbon that I knew I had to get because I was going to use it on something... well...... the texture was PERFECT and it had this crazy metallic sheen to it......Bad thing being.. .the ribbon was only 1inch wide......... :(

I went back and forth in emails with my client and I finally suggested to do the front cover, the acutal first page of the article with his name as author and then 3 of the photos.
My mom was awesome enough to drive the piece up to the client today and drop it off.
From what Mom says...... the client LOVED it. :D and Mom got to brag apparently.

I had so much fun figuring this one out! ;) Pushing those framing boundries ever so much!

Rhonda Feinman drawing frame, two sided manuscript page, unbuffered Crescent mat front and back, Museum Glass front, acrylic reverse. The client did not want to remove it from the wall often so we simply covered the back edge with black linen tape. I wish there were more unbuffered cream and white colors available, but we made do.

This is a homage to Ormond Williams because I stole his design... (with his permission of course). I found a photo of one that he did in an old Grumble posting.
Pat Kotnour and her Attach-EZ were most instrumental.
This is a sea fan, I'm thinking that they can be quite rigid, but this wasn't by any means totally rigid.
The fan is mounted on an 8 ply Crescent mat via the use of the Attach-EZ mono-filiment and the little Ez-tach locking devices that are available in her kit. I followed Pat's instructions to a T and it all worked out fine. Ormand had used mylar strips, but this fan had such tiny spaces it was even limited where I could pass a needle through. I had about 9 attachment points, and the mono-filiment is virtually invisible.
The frame is a Larson-Juhl Gramercy 146791 (silver 2" deep) with Tru-Vue Museum Glass. BTW... I do feel bad for the sea fan... but not enough to turn down the job!

Customer needed something large to fill a certain space and had this old print - the colors are perfect for her decor - but she doubted it could be made large enough..... it now measures 26 x 33

Moulding is a brand new Omega that I stripped of its finish and then viciously attacked with various powders and abrasives...... Bevel and stripe on mats are gold leaf......

Customer was like......Wow!
