Do you feel it's OK when people enter your shop to record (you have no idea about that) the inside of your shop to share the information through Google?
Soon many people will have a Google Glass and become a data-collector for Google. They will record all kind of businesses and locations that Google never can reach with Google Street. Is this a good opportunity to promote your business?

If you sell plaques/plates in your shop and use framing software too, how do you manage your sales of plaques/plates/trophies in your shop? Of course, this would apply to anyone who uses framing software plus has some other kind of "complicated" business that they also manage with other software.

I use Lifesaver currently. We sell lots of "gift" items, home decor, paintings and furniture through Lifesaver, as well as managing all of our framing sales with it. These kinds of items are all "simple" sales.

But I am considering adding a business to mine selling plaques, plates, trophies, and other engraveables. While it is no problem to ring up a sale in Lifesaver for an item, Lifesaver has no functionality that I can think of to manage plate sizes, fonts, plate materials, trophy types and sizes, types of plaques, medallions, ribbons, etc., that I will need to track for each individual sale. Of course I can come up with a paper system. The business (which is an existing one) uses a paper system now. But I left the dark ages behind long ago, and want to track everything with my computer. Any suggestions or recommendations from those who currently do this?

Thanks,
John

One hotel along our route had a different definition of "Free WiFi".

We got to the room & fired up the laptops. Full strength signal and Login screen popped up for WiFi password. Nothing in the room helped, so I called the front desk and asked for the WiFi login information.

The reply
" We advertise free WiFi which works well. We DO NOT have an Internet connection to hook up to the router, so it will not do you much good to have the login information."

Me: OK, we'll just hookup through our cellphone.
Front Desk: You can try, but there is no cell coverage here either. You can drive about 10 miles south and one of the road pullouts will get you a 1X or a 150k 3G connection if you're lucky."
Me: Dar n
Front Desk: We did have an internet connection last year but the speed was slower than dialup so we had the dish removed. We keep the router powered so that we can advertise WiFi and be technically true."

That was the better part of the night's stay.

I bought a new matt cutter, Fletcher 2200, and have problems with the stops overcutting, undercutting right after it was just calibrated. You get it calibrated then cut another mat and its back to overcutting. You calibrate it again and then it undercuts, cut the next mat and it over cuts, on and on it goes. I got the Fletcher because I was having problems with the C&H base bowing and having to put real force on the cutting arm. Cutting mats wasn't too much of a problem but I couldn't do V-groves or any other specialty cuts of that nature. The Fletcher I get a beautiful v-groove but I really DO NOT like these stops! If I don't use the stops the head is so free flowing when you plunge the blade in it pushes the head up and creates an overcut hooky thing. I know it's going to take time to get used to the new cutter but something doesn't seem right to me. Any suggestions would be a big help.

As incredible as it sounds, Canon is paying me (and anyone else in the same position) $900 to buy a new iPF8400. I pay Canon $3000 for the printer and when it gets here open up the crate and remove the two print heads ($800) and the 12 330ml ink carts($2100) and the 4 rolls of Hahnemulhe German Etching 310gsm 44” paper ($1,100) that come with the deal and throw away the printer and I’ll be $900 to the good. I’ll almost certainly use the two heads and the paper in the coming year. Considering that a service agreement extension for one of my two other Canons would cost me $1000 for a year, if I keep the printer and simply substitute it for a printer needing an expensive repair during the next year, make that $1,900. I know Canon must, somehow, be making money on the deal, but boy so am I. We’re looking around for room to store another printer so we can order two. If I were totally insensitive to waste, I could order two and actually throw the second printer into the creek. But who could do that? I can’t think of a better use of $6,000. Would anybody pass this up? What am I missing?

Ever want to know what happens when you open one of those that contain a *.zip file? I know better, but dumb sh!t me clicked the button.

I can tell you some of what happens. Up to date virus software doesn't catch anything. Windows 7 admin warning does pop up; though only after some unknown amount of mayhem has been inserted onto the computer. Even telling the admin warning not to allow access, and you think nothing got out... lemme tell you..... it ain't fun. Updated malware bytes found half dozen or so things and cleaned them but not before things got out. I had unplugged from the router as soon as I finished downloading the MB update.... maybe 90 - 120 seconds had elapsed.

At a minimum, every email account gets compromised. I did that minutes before leaving town only to have the email app balk at the number of undeliverable notices to download. Last 90 minutes spent changing passwords and still have a ways to go.
