Fellow Grumblers,
I just received an online inquiry from a person looking for old images that she recalls from her childhood...
"I am looking for pictures that I had as a young girl that had a puppy and a kitten by themselves against a sad dirty background. They each had enormously sad oversized eyes with tears falling down their faces."
Any one have any guesses or suggestions to pass onto this lady?

Boy John, I'm showing my age because I remember seeing these. I'll let it perk in the back of my brain and see if something comes back to me. We use to carry this image many moons ago.

This seem like what you might be looking for?
I think Keane was the name of the artist that was most popular during that 1970's sad eye puppy era. I remember it was the woman who painted them and the husband who got all of the credit, but I digress.....I have a book at home all about this type of art. (Why?) Also search on ebay for "Gig" sad eye prints and you'll find the above and others...
I hate to admit I actually had the print above in my bedroom as a kid.
Hey, I was 8.

Barb,
I had an image in the back of my mind and I believe that this is the item. I'm assuming that this is no longer in print? (I didn't know that you were this old, Barb)??
Anyone have any prints in stock? Anyway want to confess of carrying inventory this old/dated/ancient? :o Val?
I'll forward the Ebay listing onto this lady, but if anyone has inventory, kindly reply here or send me a PM.

John, I carry note cards by Margaret Keane in my store and have access to her other artwork as well. I don't recognize that one on eBay as one of hers. At least not currently avail. There were a lot of artists who copied her style.
PS. They are going to be making a movie with Kate Hudson playing the artist. http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20176423,00.html

John,
I would guess that the dog image might be what the customer is looking for, but it doesn't appear to be Margaret Keane's style, examining her Official Website (http://www.margaretkeane.com/). I too, would guess that there were multiple look-alike artists.
Anyone else have input - sincerely appreciated.

Hey, who you callin' old? ;)
(Ok, I'm going to take that as a compliment....)
The artist on the one I posted is "Gig", which is one of the many copy-cat artists from that era. At least I think that is the name. I'm so old my memory is leaving me. This is the one I remember as having all of the "dirty" backgrounds.
Well, if anyone does have them in stock, they aren't going to admit to it publicly now! Mercy, I should hope NOT! This would qualify as Mummified barking spiders! Seriously? Stock form the 70's? Dang. buy one blue Leisure suit, get one Sad Eye Dog print free....
