A question which may be able to be answered here...
A customer lost most things in a house fire and one print that I can't find is a limited edition by Bev Doolittle showing Otters on a log. The edition size is 350 prints and the title is unknown, though it might be "Otters on a Log". He says the print is large - could be about 24"x30" horizontal. I've searched the www but haven't seen anything showing otters.
I don't know very much about Bev Doolittle so would appreciate any help from anyone who may carry her work in their gallery.
Ideally, I need to know the title and current market value (unframed).
Help, anyone...?

I don't remember any Doolittle's with otters. Check https://www.artifactsgallery.com/art.asp?!=A&ID=612#LINKS. You might call and talk to someone there to see if they know of the piece. Hope this helps.

I don't know of any with otters either. You might take the customer to a website showing her print line. There are a number of them out there. That way you can get a title.

Not trying to create a controversy, but I know many that feel the same about Bev as many do about TK
64,000 prints is hardly a limited edition
But, i will say, they both have sold a ton of prints and i jump for joy when one comes in for framing. Both owners seem to feel they have masterpieces and do not shy away from spending big bucks to frame them
God bless 'em both and I hope I keep making money off of both

Thanks for your replies. I'm now sure that the customer has the wrong artist. I too hadn't heard of Doolittle otters and an edition of only 350 prints seemed unlikely.
Now it's time to work with the customer and figure out who his artist is.

Maybe Robert Bateman???

I don't think Robert Bateman produced any editions as small as 350 prints, but I expect he painted otters at some time - I know it's a difficult process, holding those squirmy critters still while you apply the paint :). He lives locally, on Saltspring Island. I think the mystery artist is another Saltspring islander, Carol Evans whose editions are mostly 350 prints. www.carolevans.com
I'll try the customer again today.

Try calling Gallery One. They can most likely tell you over the phone by the description.

Thanks for your help. The customer came in yesterday..."Did I say Bev Doolittle? I mean't to say Sue Coleman." A local artist of some fame - print value (and replacement) easily found.
Life is back to normal

until the next mystery
