Need help with a splice

Hello all -

I am splicing mats to make an oversize - everything is cut and looking good.... but I am wondering how to join the splice - tape on the back or glue along the bevel?

Suggestions please

Tape on the back.

I am always afraid that glue will squeeze out on the money side and look terrible.

There is a trick that will be described in an up coming Preservation Practices,
which entails adhering the parts of the splice to an added bevel, behind them
using paste, which can make very clean joints. The paste (same as is used
for hinging) can be cooked in a microwave, is cheap, and does not show, in
the joint.
