Calling all "Hanger Engineers" - ASAP

Here is my photo frame collage for my customer (her design). What an exercise in engineering.

It is held together in critical junctions on the back with 1 1/2" L-plates, which work pretty good.

NOW - my quandry - where to put hangers and what kind to use! I don't think I want to span the top three frames - as it would put stress on the connections. It will need either 2 sawtooth or 2 wall hangers to keep it level..

HELP!! What do you think!?!

The small WallBuddies would do the trick I would think.

I would hate to try a wire on that.

z-bar through 2nd set from top at top rail on left and bottom rail on right. Will lend stability to whole assemblage.

I would probably run a painted furring (sp?) strip (thin strip of wood) across the top three frames in the back and put small wall buddies on that.

Good ideas... Thanks!! I didn't think of either of those - too frazzled!! Leaning toward wall buddies!! (since I don't have the right size z-bar)

Wallbuddies, and I don't think that you even have to worry about them being on the same horozontal plane, as long as measurements are accurate for placement of hooks. IE: one can be higher / lower than other.

Place your wallbuddies and then make your customer a cardboard template showing where top of upper most frame is located and where to put wallbuddie hooks. Good use for all that cardboard left from your glass boxes. We often make templates like this for our customers.

Be sure to note front and back just in case something is not quite symetrical, all of a sudden 1/4" turns into 1/2" or something like that in the case of a security hanger and the bottom plate.... Not that I'd know of course...:faintthud:

One side of cardboard template reads: "This side faces wall" the other reads: "This side faces you stupid person who needs a template to hang a picture frame anyhow :fire: "

I like the design - I think I'll "steal" it!

I would use wallbuddies also, but I'm sure my husband the Engineer would disagree on some point!

I would make a backer board that covered the back of the entire package out of a material like Door skin, or other thin wood. this would apply even presure to the entire object, and you could screw hangers into that without any worry of weird tension on your seams.

Steal Away!!! It was like doing a jigsaw puzzle!!! Worked out good - I am just glad the moulding selected had the width to be able to use L-brackets!! And it really doesn't weigh that much for the wall buddies and engineering of the piece!! Customer was very happy with it!!!

Uncle Eli - customer wanted to be able to get into the frames for potential changes!! So the backer board was not an option on this one, even though that would have been a more stable approach!
