A useful idea to pass on to your family and friends.

The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly.
It is simple, yet an important method of contact during emergency
situations.

As mobile (Cell) phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need
to do is store the number of a contact person(s) who should be contacted
at during emergency as "ICE " (In Case of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when they went to
the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients,
BUT they didn't know which numbers to call. He therefore thought that it
would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this
purpose.

Following a disaster in London, the East Anglican Ambulance Service
launched a national "In case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign. In an
emergency situation, Emergency Services personnel and hospital staff
would then be able to quickly contact your next of kin, by simply
dialling the number stored as "ICE".

It really could save your life, or put a loved
one's mind at rest. For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1,
ICE2 and ICE3 etc.

Seems like a very sensible idea. It must be puzzling for EMTs to find a cell phone with contacts labeled, 'wife,' 'girlfriend1,' 'girlfriend2' etc. Who you gonna call?

I recently got a call at home from my own cell phone. It seems I had dropped it at the dog park and someboday's Brittany spaniel had found it. Good dog. I had numbers labeled Home Appleton and Home Two Rivers. They tried both.

I’m not sure what you can do….I do know that there are now more mobile(cell) phones in use in Ireland than there are people…..my mum and dad both 85 use one…..my mum loves it…………..dad I’m not so sure about…..

I love my mobile phones, mine was the 59 mobile phone that was issued in Ireland back all those years ago……I rarely use a land line these days……I even have my faxes sent to my mobile……..and I’m just waiting for the new broadband system for mobiles to hit my area and I will switch from my current landline broadband provider…..my understanding is that the cost will be more or less the same……….advantage is that I will be able to operate almost anywhere in Ireland and Europe without having to find a hotspot

OHHHHHHHHHH …..on second thought you could consider getting an “ICE” bracelet made

BTW whats with the ICE PICK I do not understand!!!!!

Someone brought a cell phone into my shop one day that had been found on the sidewalk. Why they brought it to me of all people I'll never know but I managed to turn the thing on and find the menu and made it call "Dad."

Dad was surprised at the call but asked his daughter if she had her phone and she was amazed to find it was gone.

Dermot - an ice pick is an archaic tool like a long awl that was used to bust up blocks of ice back before refrigeration. They are now found mostly only in murder mysteries so hence people are still familiar with the term. I thought it would be a great play on words, see???
