Hey guys,

I'm looking for a bunch of designs(pics and links) of mats cut by the 8000 or 8500 to draw some inspiration from and to see what the Wizard cmc can really do...Novelty and customer jobs.

So if you have a link to a website or to your own web page it would be much appreciated.

I'm also seeking ideas on a display for the front office...ie:a board with several small mat designs to show off for display purpose and to show customers what it is capable of doing.
I am open to suggestions.

OK! here is an idea of what a Wizard can do for your sales. Had a customer bring in a framed art print from China. She brought in the grape print that she wanted rematted and put in that frame.

Reg price for double mats that she choose and double fit charge was around $130.00 but when she saw what the Wizard could actually cut using our IF software she opted for #213 pointy cut with a 1/4" open v-groove. Now the ticket grew to $211.00. Only a couple of mouse clicks on IF and in the Wizard cut program and a minute or two extra to assemble the open v.

Now the #213 cut is one you wouldn't normally use on fine art but on this decorative pc. the customer loved it. Nice upsale.

On the wizard website you can access designs and stuff. They have free stuff as well as books you can buy.
For our display I cut 10 11x14 mats and stuck them in frames and hung them in the shop to show my customers what we can do. I also rematted some of my gallery art with cool wizard v-grooves. I just completed it last week. Hopefully it will help sell the Wizard.

Nice upsale.

Thought I ought to clarify since this is a public forum and some might stumble on to this post and say " look how those custom framers just rip you off"

This upsell did involve the cost of a $14,000 piece of equipment. Of course that cost does have to be recouped in sales or there would be no point of owning the equipment.

You have to upsell! (we call it "adding value").

by the time the machine reaches the UK (remember that we usually pay £1 per $1 on comparative prices)- that makes it like a $28,000 investment for a purchased machine and $1000 for the software....

I feel a wallet attack coming on, I'm just going to lie down for a while

I just had someone say to me "Well, now that your mats are easier to cut since you got the Wizard, you won't have to charge so much for them, huh?"

:icon45: Uh......maybe I should charge more for them now that I have a Wizard to pay for??
sheesh.....

You guys are great with all these awesome designs....keep 'em coming...I have another mouth (Wiz's) to feed now!!

That was a pretty big joke here in the early days of Wizard - as Cliff said there's 4. The official answer is that every 90 degrees of an arc segment is a "corner"..

Steve, when will that be available as cut art?

Honestly that design doesn't belong to us, and I don't know if Wayne intends to release it or not. I hope he does. :) Apparently he's got another really amazing celtic design too..

Wow...thanx for the reply's people, some really nice work there and some good tips as well, cheers.

And double wow to Wayne's work there...Wayne was the one who came to setup our Wizard so i look forward to dealing with him some more in the future and getting some tips.
I'm glad he's in my corner(pun intended).

And i actually starting looking at some celtic and tribal designs to get a bit of practice in trace and draw plus i need to know the limitations of the cmc so that is a very good guide...so i look forward to getting a few of them designs done!

I shall post some at a later date.Wizard here i come!!!

P.S:Keep em coming!!!!

The official answer is that every 90 degrees of an arc segment is a "corner"....

"Official" should not be confused with "accurate".

Jay, I love that one.

I remember awhile back when you described how you did that , but I can't remember which thread it was on. I didn't have my Wizard then , but now that I do, I'm going to hunt that down and try it. I especially like the fabric treatment and anxious to do that, too!

Yeah, Wayne's a great guy - I first met him back in 98. I was just informed however that I misquoted his place of employment. Wayne now works for LJ in Australia (update your profile Wayne! :) )

Here are some of my original designs, The first is a mat for a keith harring Original. I haven't actually cut this one yet, the customer is still trying to come up with the money for the job.The second one was for a John Coltrain Portrait. The top mat was black w/ clue core, because the album that the picture was from was on blue note records. The Third was for a highly detailed watercolor of an oriental Vase. The next few are decorative elements that were added to vairous pieces. If you can Draw it, and have a space big enough to accomidate the intricate turns of some designs, the Wizard Can Cut it. Far and above the best piece of equipment I own (err. lease).

The blue design from down under is actually simple in CAD - it's mostly a repeat pattern plus the corners which are cut and paste. I cut this on my old Fletcher Terry F6100 years ago.

It has surprised me for many years how few framers do these cuts.
