A couple of weeks ago my notebook told me I should upgrade to IE 7.
I thought I would do that, but now regret that move. It installed in place of IE 6 and since then hasn't worked at all. It doesn't even load the operational icons at the top of the screen, just an empty shell.
If anything is clicked it just locks up and requires the three fingered salute to shut it down.

A couple of days ago I downloaded the file and tried installing it again, but the result is exactly the same.

Do any of you "windoze" experts know how to get rid of this stupid thing?

It's a good thing that I use Firefox for 99.999999% of my web browsing!

Ormond,

I had a gut feeling about this one so I didn't install it yet. I hear too much on the negative side by those who didn't have a good experience with it. Some people installed it and had it operate with no problems and others had nothing but problems.

I get a little balloon at the bottom of my screen every day telling me that I have new updates to install but I just X it out. I would like to know how to get rid of the balloon!!

I expect that the same thing will occur with Vista until MS gets all the bugs and glitches ironed out so I am content with XP for the next few years.

I don't expect you'll get an little reminders to download Vista, since it won't be a free update.

I don't know how to uninstall IE7. I have it installed on both my computers and I love it. Not everyone has had such a happy experience. Perhaps you said something bad about Bill Gates at some time or another?

Click on
Start>Control Panel>Add Remove Programs
Find and click on IE7 and select remove

It will remove only IE7.

The only issue I've had is that occasionally it will promt that you have installed other updates since you have installed it. I go ahead and remove and re-run windows update using the advanced option and deselecting IE7 (otherwise it will simply reinstall that as well.)

Thanks Quickdraw! Silly me didn't look there because usually Microshaft stuff is part of Windoze and is under "Add and Remove Windoze Components", which sometimes is tricky to understand.

What is that you love about it Ron? Does it have something that Firefox hasn't had for the past umpteen years?

Me, Moi, I?................Surely, you jest!

I love IE7 because it works for me and has never given me any trouble. I'm certainly not out to try and convert anyone else.

I can't compare it with Firefox because I've never looked at Firefox.

I have installed IE7 on 4 different machines, one of them a laptop, and they all four work flawlessly.

The thing I love the most about IE7 is the tabbed browsing verses opening a new window at every click.

Firefox has had that ability for the several years that I have been using it. IE is just catching up. In firefox, pressing your scroll wheel on a bookmark automatically opens it in a new tab. Does IE 7 do that too?

I did manage to get rid of IE 7 and have IE 6 back now and it works.

ie7 takes a bit of getting used to, but now i like it alot! no trouble at all. its streamlined and simple; uncluttered, i guess you might say. tab features and favorites are really convienient---again, once you get used to them.

Os, you can also download a standalone IE from microsoft, and leave IE7 in stalled if you prefer, I keep a version 6 and 7 for testing website updates, as well as firefox and opera.

You might see a bit less functionality (cookies) with the standalone.

I uninstalled IE7 and installed it twice and both times it would not work. Just locked up half way through the opening screen sequence and locks up.

After uninstalling it permanently IE6 works OK for the rare occasion when Firefox doesn't display a page adequately.

It might have something to do with your computer being upside down.
