I thought that Super77 was toxic, you mean there is a toxic-like spray available? Do you get generic cancer from it?

My predecessor did. And their glass cleaner too. And the all-purpose-will-take-the-paint-right-off-but-not-the-dirt cleaner. I inherited several several boxes of all three.
If you've figured out how to get them to stop calling, please share it with us! My last response was "YES! And it's ####! And I've tried throwing it all away but it keeps coming back! Please stop calling me, Idontwantanymore!!!":icon45:
I don't know if it's the same company, but I really don't want a can of anything on my shop table that's called "GET OFF!" No really, that's what the glass cleaner's called! And the no-purpose cleaner is called "GET OUT!" I can't remember what the spray glue was called....probably "STICK THIS!" or something like that.

Should'nt telemarketers be required to use a "900" number? That way we get $4.95/minute for having to put up with their interuptions.

tell them, "OMG, I am SOOOO glad you called!!! I am about out of (insert crappy product they are trying to peddle) and all my suppliers have cut off my credit for nonpayment of my bills so I need somebody NEW to buy from!!!
"Oh, can I buy by the case lots?? I can store them up and maybe I will be in better financial shape the next time I run out!!"
"No, I don't have any credit cards, I maxed out all of them and they closed me down."
That should get a totally silent pause on the other end of the phone.
I did this with credit card telemarketers some years ago and they haven't bothered me since. I truly believe that all these big telemarketers have a black list that they put financial risk customers on and I am not in the least bit proud enough not to give them the old I am broke as a joke line but "if you can sell me on credit I'll buy all you have" line. And it usually gets you automatically black balled from most of their call lists.
My spiel to the credit card guy was something like,
"YES, YES I want your card!!!
Oh thank you for calling me, I will give you whatever information you need to get your card!! Can I have a $10,000 credit limit to start??
Why??
Well, all my other cards are maxed out and I can't get any more credit on them until I pay my back payments on what I already owe and so I need to switch some of that debt over to a fresh card and 10 Grand should take care of the bigger cards."
Dead silence on the other end of the phone.
"Uh sir, I am sorry to say that we cannot extend our card service to you at this time but please call us again later to check out our offerings."
(Yeah, right, THEY called ME!! ............................... In the middle of SUPPER!!!!)
Ya gotta put your pride and your ego aside and just get down and dirty with these guys once in awhile!

OK. I'll stick my big toe into this one.
I admit--I bought the stuff. I do use Super 77. Not for framing applications, but for sticking cheap artist biographies to the back of the package, making quick temp signs to put out on the sidewalk, etc. I listened to their speal. It costs about 1/2 the price of 77. I got it and tried it. It works about as well. the 6 cans I paid for will last me about 2 years, but at about $6 a can it won't cost me nearly as much.
I know the sales calls can come at the worst times. But if I can, I listen. Sometimes they have something worth considering. If I'm not interested or don't have time, I say so and hang up.

Richard Darling or Silly Putty was the company called Max Professionals (1-800-655-1675)? I posted a thread a day ago about them. If it is the same company, I feel a little better about saying yes to trying it.

I'm sure we all get these calls. What I would like to know is where do they get their referrals? I would like to know so that I can harass the original information seller. Is it Decor? PFM? PPFA?
These guys call every few months. Its irritating but doesn't really send me off the edge.
On a side note within days of getting my business license I started getting sales calls for "Jay Jartman" (my last name is Hartman). I'm shocked by the range of ####-peddlers that are tapped into this database. I usually answer, "my last name starts with an H, what garbage are you trying to pawn off on me?"
Its not just my name I want pronounced correctly. 90% of ####-peddlers call my store "Great Angels"....its Ang-L-E-S!!!!!! I'm convinced that that spellin doesn't rank high on the list of requirements for the job.

Yes , it was Max Professional.
I have had only one call from them. Buy some Jay and maybe they won't call anymore!

I’ve been getting a lot of these calls lately.
A pre-recorded lady calls:
“Please stand by for an important message … all of our sales representatives are assisting other customers … but, please stay on the line for an important message.”
Are they kidding? They call [b]me and expect me to wait when they put me on hold? They must think people are idiots!

Dunno how to tell you this, but if the ploy didn't work, they would quickly stop doing it. I never buy from cold telephone calls. I probably miss some great deals, but if I bought, then I would simply be encouraging behavior I deplore.

I'm with you Ellen. Our standard response is "I'm sorry - we neither purchase nor donate over the phone - click". If nobody talks to them maybe they will eventually give up. As far as missing out on a good deal I think you are far more likely to miss out on some sort of scam.

Jay: ever since I cancelled my PPFA and most mag subscriptions--notably Decor and PFM (and I get PFM free at a local supplier)--all these telemarketing calls have stopped.
Coincidence? You tell me.
Maybe they even prowl this site, but doubt it. Still.....

I'll have to check when I get to the shop.
I don't purchase from a cold call either. The deal with the spray was they would ship me a case, one can of which was free. If I liked it, I could pay the invoice. If I didn't like it, I could ship the case back. Didn't have to give any CC info over the phone.

Richard,
That's exactly what I was told.
We'll see what it's all about when I get the product.

I have a can of the spray adhesive in my hand. Purple label, yellow-gold top.
It's called "STICK IT!"
Says "Mist Spray Adhesive...Bonds & Mounts Most Everything"
The packing slip on the box is from 2002, though, my predecessor bought it and the glass cleaner , called "GET OFF!"
I got a call from them last week, and told them I inherited several boxes of spray adhesive and glass cleaner to last a couple of years, and please don't call me, I'll call you.
I had to use the "Stick It!" yesterday for a ratty poster and didn't have anything else in the shop. Seemed to work just fine.
However, with names like "GET OFF!" and "STICK IT!" and "BLOW OFF" and (all-purpose cleaner..."GET OUT!", I keep the cans in their box under the counter. I don't care to be yelled at by my cleaning/glueing products, nor have that message visible in my shop! Ha!!

They probably named their products using quotes from people who were cold-called by their sales staff.

This reminds me of the time I was having some things translated by a nice gentleman in Germany. One of the things I wanted translated was an instructional sheet on cleaning. He didn't quite understand the whole thing, and wanted a couple of examples, such as the names of the products used. I wrote back to him a list, including the item "Goof Off".
He e-mailed a co-worker, clearly upset, wanting to know how he had offended me so much, for me to tell him to "Goof Off" (which apparently when translated into German... wasn't very nice).
Well, once we figured out what the misunderstanding was, we all had a good laugh, including the gentleman in Germany.
Of course, now I can't keep a straight face anytime I see a tin of "Goof Off".
