I am reframing a Diploma from 1928!!!

It is definitely vintage!! It is in a solid wood, presumably handmade frame, with glass and a wood back. (We've seen this before!!)

The diploma itself is discolored all around the edges that were touching the wood and is extremely wrinkled. I don't believe the wrinkles will ever reverse themselves so I am using frame spacers to allow for the wrinkles in the new frame package.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Roz

I did one last year that came in rolled up (sorta)and was wrinkled and so badly misshapen it required a 2" shadowbox moulding! It had also survived a fire and was charred and had a couple of burn holes in the middle. I framed it just as it was, float-mounted it in a beautiful vintage-look frame on dark brown suede and it was presented to the woman who earned it, on her 87th birthday. She cried, and said she was glad "they didn't fool around with it and try to fix it". Apparently she sat in her rocking chair in front of it for a good couple of days, just remembering how it got that way.

Some things are just better left un-fooled-around-with.

Or, if they do want it flat (some do), you can refer them to a conservator. Those are usually straightforward so shouldn't be too costly.
