Has anyone framed any? We have the display for the boxers but short of tearing it apart it seems to be either glued or attached in some other manner.

Any good suggestions?

Pete,
Sounds like to me you are tearing one apart before reframing....need more info, is it glued to base? How is it displayed now. Is it to go into another shadow box? help me out here.....I can help, hopefully

We have framed a few baseballs. We dry mount the backing board (Alpha or rag) to 1/8" acid free FC. Then cut a small hole (about 1-2" wide) in the board to place the ball on it. You don't want to see the hole from the front. The hole helps to keep the ball in place. Then we stitch (using a curved needle) the laces of the ball to the backing board (from the back) making sure you can not see the thread from the front. It looks great when they are done. You never want to glue a valuable baseball.
We have the boxer sample also. I have no idea how that ball is secured, but my guess is, that it is glued. I doubt that that ball is valuable.
Have fun,
Michelle

I took my Boxer Ball apart and found a big screw through the backing into the ball.

We have done several of these. The last one was a baseball and bat, signed by Nolan Ryan. I forget the significance other than that. We mounted both so that they were totally reversible with no damage. The bat I'll save for a longer post. As for the ball, we got a plastic case from a sports collectible shop. The case was an orb (of course) with a pedestal. The orb came apart so that it could accommodate the baseball. It was a fairly snug fit. Turned the ball to face the direction we wanted and then only had to mount the case. A much easier task. We placed a block on the inside bottom leg of the frame and placed the pedestal on the block. The interior of the frame - back, sides & block were covered with red suede. It was very striking especially with the bat mounted above it (in the same frame).

This my be little off subject but we were asked to frame a violin but the customer wanted it removeable for playing. I just went to local plexi distubtor and they made us the nicest clips for the violin and the bow worked out great!!!!!!!

The ball has never been framed or anything else done to it. The orb thing was my first thought. Since it is 50 years old and signed by Joe D.. The lacing idea will be great for a newer one.....just wouldn't want to rip an old one.

If it belonged to me, I'd leave it in the safe and use it for retirement.

Thanks, Glad to know boxer one was screwed in placed. We should get on those sample makers and get them up to archival standards. Why else would you frame that bb.
