I know we have discussed this before but I did a search for 'mold' and 'mildew' but didn't come up with much. A customer brought in an open edition print from Denmark. It is a sketch of a baby sleeping on his side with the thumb in his mouth. I do not believe there is any monetary value to the print but there is sentimental value. The problem is that at the top of the print there is a light brown almos tea staining that I believe is mold. An oval mat opening can cover up most of the stains but I'm concerned with the mold spreading. Can anything be done? Suggestions?

What you are describing sounds more like foxing,
an oxidation reaction and not either mold or
mildew. Your idea of covering it with a window
should do fine, if that is the case.

Is there any physical evidence of the mold? Any powdery (almost like chalk pastel) blue-green-grey stuff on the surface? Is it in spots or more of a localized discoloration?
From your description it sound more like a water stain.
Edit: #&^%! I've got to work on my typing skills. Posting before Hugh on a conservation issue is one thing, but trying to follow that act, sheesh!
