I,ve been asked for a particular moulding to do a job for a photographer in town.He used another frame shop but didn,t like the service he was getting and came to me...with an open mind on my samples etc etc.The trouble is that he uses a lot of a particular moulding.I don,t like it,he doesn,t like it but his punters love it!I can,t trace it anywhere from the usual british companies.

The moulding reference begins with the letter K.

I think the reference number is K6020.Any help would be appreciated.

Reynard,
Can you post a picture? The number isn't familiar, but that doens't mean anything...distributors come up with their own numbering system all the time.

Try taking the letter away and then checking for the moulding in the catalogues, I have noticed that the distributors in the UK and Ireland sometime drop the letter in front of the manufactures code’s, nothing has come up in my catalogues.

If all else fails you could send a sample to Dave Woods at Sisslings in Dublin, he is a real nice guy and a whiz at finding framing supplies………..he has a very deep knowledge of the framing business and worked in the UK a few years back……..I would have a small bet with you that if he cannot help you no one can……….Tel: +353 1295 4131, tell him that Dermot from Ashford said to contact him.

BTW Sisslings are direct importers they do not buy from UK sources so if he can help you will be buying in Euro €, that should be good for your bank balance even after you add carriage.

Regs.

PS
The code starts with K is it a gold type moulding?

Thanks chaps. It is a domed profile about an inch and a quarter wide.Available in a light gold crosshatch finish a silver and a bronzy colour. There is a set of mount slips which match them too.I saw in this months picture business magazine that Euro were doing a very similar looking moulding but twice the width. To be honest its doing my nut in because its not exactly a great moulding but this photographer reckons he can shift it fine so I will stock it if I ever find it.

Thanks Dermot I will give your man a ring and see if he can help me out.I have looked through all my catalogues as well.Byron,Holroyd,Arqadia,Ashworth,Frinton,Simons blah blah blah. Its possible that it is a newish range and therefore doesn,t come into the newer catalogues.I will keep trying because its worth good money to me if I strike oil here!

This looks like a number possibly from a British factory named Rochford in Rochford England. Unfortunately I believe they closed recently.
Is the moulding by any chance pine?
A photo would be helpful.

Hmmm not a pine unfortunately. Its a finished moulding like I described above.I wil try and get the digital camera together and let you see it maybe monday.I am pretty useless with the computer so will get my wife to do it.She is more interested.

By the look of it its an Italian moulding which doesn,t help much!

I WILL hunt this moulding down and I will cut it into little bits when I do

Sorry for being so vague about this BTW.I just hoped someone this side of the pond might recognise the reference number and point me in the right direction. Its not a particularly interesting frame to me but you know how it is...customers!And I want to make the effort with this photographer because he will use hand gilded frames from me in due course. He was going up to Glasgow for framing before because he didn,t know about me and what I did.So he will be a good contact in the future. Its just that he sold a lot of this frame and wants to keep it on his sample board but doesn,t want to go back to his old framer to ask him more about it as they had a huge falling out!The framer was a typical grumpy sod like we all are. :D

Just to let you know that I managed to track the thing down.I am now sleeping much better at night.I hope you all will too now! :D

Thanks Lance!I knew someone would be rivetted by the saga!Well I got it from Ashworth And Thompson. The rep appeared on tuesday with his new ranges and voila!Howe pleased was I as I trotted off to the photgrapher clutching my sample only to be told he prefers the other mouldings I gave him.

Got friends in Featherston in the North Island. Is that near you?
