I was at a store the other day, and noticed their display of canvas transfer-like prints. The print is mounted on foam board, then laminated with a textured film (right term?) and just popped in the frame that way... looks pretty good, actually. Anyone else see this? I would like to try this for myself and have no clue as to what this laminate is called or who sells it.

It is a Linen or Canvas heat seal film.

Great for film sets no reflections.

One of the pictures used in the James Bond film Golden Eye (I think that was the one) has a picture that was done that way.

A small photo was sent from Australia to a friend of mine in Ireland he had to enlarge it mount it heat seal it with the canvas stuff frame it an ship it back to Australia one of those strange things that go on in the film industry, as I'm sure there is someone down under who could have done it.

My friend hung up the phone on the person who tried to place the order he thought it was one of his mates messing, lucky they called back.

The textured laminate is available from Print-Mount.

We occasionally do them here, with Printmount canvas or linen textured laminating film. Usually we use clear acrylic gel medium to add texture and brushstrokes. They look great & sell profitably.

Be careful about modifying artwork -- even open edition prints. Some copyright holders get their undies in a bunch when their products are changed, and in some places they can win lawsuits over such copyright violations. It's best to get permission from the publisher (or whoever holds copyright) first.

Jim brings up a valid point about copyrights. But I'm not sure they are enforced at our level much, if at all.

Have any Grumblers ever had a first hand personal experience with the copyright sheriff? If so, what happened and how did you get out of it?
