I would like some input with framers favorite, or most frequently used colors. I am trying to consolidate the boards I use to print the patterns on down to a more managable few. I print on Crescent boards, so those names or numbers would be helpful. I know that most of you use rag board and do not use decorative boards, but help with current color use would be great. Thanks DMB decmatbds@aol.com

decmatbds,
This isn't a criticism, but I'm curious about why you don't use the rag boards or Alphamats or similar. I understand they are more expensive, but they seem to hold up better, even in non-critical applications. Is your application specifically designed for temporary use?
Like most computerized framers, I could easily send you a list of my best-selling boards, but the list would not contain a single "paper" mat - they are all Crescent Rag, Bainbridge ArtCare, Tru Vue Conservation or Artique.

The reason that I do not use the rag boards is becouse I have not had any luck selling any. Framers tell me that they use white only and are not much interested. I have some Crescent boards here and could try again if there were any interest.

Hi dec,
Welcome to the Grumble.
I think that you really SHOULD take a serious look at the rag mats. If what you say is true about all the other framers in Panama City, you are sure to claim a major portion of the framing business by offering rag mats to your customers!!
I don't even own a set of paper mat samples. I, like Ron, offer only Crescent, Artique, and Banbridge in my gallery. There is a whole group of people out there who would pay for rag mats and, if you offer them, they will buy them.
You are standing on the threshhold of making a gob of money in your frame shop if none of the other framers are offering rag down there!

I would LOVE to see more decorative matboard in anything BUT papermats!! We snatch up everything that comes in from Crescent, Bainbridge and Tru-vue, and it is not enough to please the interior designer we often work with (her favorite rant!).
Our customers that frame decorative $30. prints spend a mint framing them up to achieve a particular look, and I think they deserve the "better" matboard--who wants this stuff fading and yellowing??!! I am not at work yet, but later today I will get you specific numbers for colors--thank you for asking! :D

I would be pleased to make samples of patterns on Crescent Rag and Conservation boards.
The boards that Crescent sells with "HZ" perfixes I designed. I have been designing and printing Boards since 1991.
If you people will let me know what basic colors you use most I will ask them to send me some samples.
Any suggestions for new patterns? I am currently making up a new batch of pattern samples to be sent to Crescent for consideration for next years line.

The color pallette and patterns of Alphamat Artcare Traces and Heritage collections were right on the button for us. WE LOVE THOSE!
Subtle patterns are good; neutrals are good, of course.
(BTW-the Verde Rouge and Old Porcelain were good ones we loved)
OK, specific colors. Everything and anything in the first 3 columns of the Crescent Rag Mat specifier. We also use alot of 1619, 1690, 1639, 1652, 1578 and everything in the last 2 columns on page 3. Hope you get more input on this subject! Good luck!
