First, Let me thank everyone for the great feedback on cameras & printers. I think I am going to get a cannon G2 camera. I haven't made a decision on the printer yet. I am still waiting for jeffrybehr to e-mail me about printers he recomends. Now I need help on a domain name. I had one, I was told was reseved for me and found out later it was taken. That one was elitecreations.com. In fact the one that was saved for me is eliteframingcreations.com. This one would seem to be great if we where just doing framing, but my wife is a decorater and we will handle home decor products also. We came up with elitecreationsgalleries.com and elitegallerycreations.com. We are not sure so I told my wife that I would ask the grumbles. I recieved so much help before so maybe I could get some input on this subject. Shoud I do a poll? Maybe after I get some feedback?
Thanks,
cajun Framer

I like elitecreationsgallery.com. But I have to say that is a qualified answer. When I bought my shop it was called Elite Custom Framing and I just didn't like the name. I guess it just didn't sound like what my store looks like. I changed it to Out on a Whim Custom Framing and now it sounds like it looks. I have to say customers writing it on a check is a handful though. So I guess from my qualified answer you should name your business Outonawhimcreationsgallery.com. :D

Cajunsdesigns.com - just kidding.
When I first started in this business I had a concept of the type of business I wanted, an upscale full service framing and art gallery.
I was going to use part of my name, but I was afraid that it sounded too exclusive, so I called it Classic Custom Framing. I know, don't give me a hard time. I started to see Classis Custom Painting, Classic Custom Siding, well, you get the picture. I quickly realized that I was right the first time. I am and wanted to be unique. Within a year while I was still part-time I change my name to my first and middle name which sounded sophisticated and unique.
The clients who want a decorators and a custom picture frames services want to know who the are doing business with.
Anyone can be Elite Framing. Not everyone can be Cajun & Cajun.com
How long have you been operating with the name Elite Creations?
I checked EliteCreations.org & .info are available - better hurry!

I'll have to agree with Less. (Oh my gosh, what am I saying!!!)
I've always felt it was important to have one's name associated with the business. I know there are arguments that that may sound "rinky dink", but tell that to JC Penny, LL Bean and Eddie Bauer. It all depends on how you "brand" yourself and market your business.
If you belong to the PPFA just look at the newsletter insert of all the new members and the business names. Look at how many of them are the same across the country. That works for a franchise, but it's confusing for a single frame shop.
What's wrong with cajun(your name)creationgalleries? (Unless your name is a mile long and hard to pronounce.) But again, it would depend on (like Less said) how long you've been known as Elite Framing Creations. If you're well known as that, don't lose it. I'd buy 2 names and have them both go to the same site. Eliteframingcreations and maybe Eliteframing&creationsgalleries that way you can market your framing and the other components of your business.
My site is www.newmanvalley.com (http://www.newmanvalley.com) that way it can cover all the different aspects of my business as I choose to add them. Newman Valley Enterprises, Newman Valley Studio, Newman Valley Farm and Newman Valley Publications.
Eh, for what it's worth.

I guess any of these domain names would work....but what is the name of your business? Or is that to be determined by which domain name that you are able to secure? I'm a bit confused. I would think that you'd like to have your domain name match your business name as close as possible......just one of those things that makes it easy for people to find us on the web!
For example, our legal business name is The Frame Workshop of Appleton, Inc., and people of course refer to us as The Frame Workshop. We secured www.theframeworkshop.com (http://www.theframeworkshop.com) as our website.
Regardless of what you decide upon, what you don't want to end up with is something like...www.geo-cites/my_town/local_attractions/maybe_you_can_find_us
/Bob's_Frame_Shop.com smile.gif

Regards,
JohnAw heck, John, I just visited Bob's Frame Shop website and it was a very nice little site.
I have to say that anyone who specializes in custom framing, corrective horse shoeing, bridal gown alterations, and an online advice to the lovelorn column must have his hands full with the varied cross section of people who become his "clients". tongue.gif
But you are correct, it is much better to try to secure a brief descriptive site name that says who you are and what you do in a couple of words.

I am serious! There is a frame shop in a town near us that carries horse tack and does custom framing. I haven't met her, but have talked to her a couple times via e-mail. So she could be one of us!
And I thought caning and framing was wierd. At least I learned to market it as Art and Antiques.

Hi Cajun:
The URL "DecorElite.com" is available as of 8/29. Have you named your business yet? They must match, your web name and your local business name because:
NOBODY will EVER find you on the web surfing. They must type in your domain name to get to your website.
It takes a long time to be listed in search engines, and there's a LOT to it. It will cost you $299.00 annually just to be listed in Yahoo!'s directory, and that's just a start.
Good luck, and it's a lot of fun working with the WWW, so do it and over time it will develop.

There are other suffixes you can use like, .USA, .NET or .ORG. I think there is one more yet but can't remember it off hand (.BIZ maybe). How about www.elitecreations.usa , rather patriotic.

My first thought was framedecor
then, frame&decor
cajunframery
elitedecor.com as long as custom picture framing is on your signage as well.
Afterall -- aren't custom frames elite!
