6 entries from over 3000 registered members of The Grumble ? I am disappointed, after all the vocal support for the PPFA I genuinely thought people would be falling over themselves in an attempt to get a free year of it. I wish that there was some sort of consolation prize for the two entries that did not win.

John,

It may not have produced the volume we wanted but thank you for your efforts, and your support. To the six that entered, thank you taking the time to write your thoughts.

PS John, the orginal offer that started all this still stands.

Thanks for the kind words William, yes, my original offer still stands. I stated in one post back at the beginning, that even if only one person entered, I would pay the prize money. In some parts of the country people actually still believe that a person is only as good as their word. I am one of them.

John,

Actually I was referring to my original offer to you for me to pay for your membershp for one year. With all that faces us as an organization we could use some dedicated non-conformist sailers. It would be nice to have a few more people who can tell the difference between the appartent wind and the true wind.

Why I Didn't Enter The Contest:

I was a PPFA member for 10 years or more and I have become more involved with fellow framers and more excited about framing in my one month on the Grumble!

I love to put forth opinions, think outside the box, solve problems, tackle challenges. I just could not think of any way to make the PPFA like the Grumble! I feel bad about this, because I realize this is a flippant answer to a serious issue.

John, please don't be discouraged. I suspect I have a lot of company when I say I care, but don't feel, despite all the discussions on and concerns about the PPFA problems, that I have any solid answers to contribute.

Framer, will you publish all the suggestions?

Dear Framar,

Not a flippant answer at all. People who like cats do not give flippant answers. The really important question you have raised is why after ten years was the PPFA of no further value to you. Maybe the next contest needs to be why I left the PPFA. The answer to that question could help determine the future of the organization.

All my best,

William Parker, CPF GCF

I wanted to enter the contest and I'll tell you why I didn't. I didn't like the e-mail entry. I'm always getting kicked off my computer when I'm in the middle of something. I also like to work on something and go back to it. I would have preferred to be able work on my entry at my leisure and mail it in. There might have been some way for me use the e-mail system, but I am not computer-smart enough to figure it out.

To work a letter/e-mail off line open a word-file type whatever you want, copy it to an e-mail or attach it as a file using the paper clip that is on the tool bar at the top of the e-mail.

Have a go it works and you won't mess up the computer.

Good luck.

I think they should change the computer thing on The Grumble to "Tips and Hints for Using Your Computer", or something like that it would be a great help for someone like me who has a very limited knowledge of all you can do with computers.

I think computers are like plants; some people have a way with them, and others can kill them just by walking by. http://www.thegrumble.com/framer/ubbs/wink.gif My brother, for instance, would do things to our computer when I was a teenager that I couldn't have re-created if I'd tried; the entire thing would freeze out of nowhere and I'd have to go fix it...

And as far as the contest...I would have entered it if I could've thought of something positive to say about the PPFA. And I don't mean that sarcastically...but between the VP of the PPFA who posted here, and some of the other members I've met, I just honestly didn't feel I'd be at home there. And while I could certainly have used the money towards their books, I couldn't think of anything I could say that would improve an organization I don't think very highly of. The Art&Framing Council had a much more welcoming website, and a lot more gung-ho attitude...and there were no locks and bars on any of their links or pages.

But that's just my opinion, of course. http://www.thegrumble.com/framer/ubbs/smile.gif And I wish the best for whoever won the contest.

Audrey, Please re-read your last post, there where several ideas in it that could easily have been an entry. An entry could have been one or two sentences long. What you just posted could have filled several paragraphs.

The whole point was to give ideas on how to make the PPFA more desirable to more people.
The concept was simple, what don't you like about the PPFA? What is the opposite of that answer?

I hope we do it again next year, perhaps we can get a little help from PFM & Decor with a little plug about it.

I have my own reasons for not joining, I still believe that PPFA has made huge contributions to our industry and all of us, members or not, should be trying to help them during the tough times they are having now. Their contributions helped all of us, we should help them.

If every frame shop in the country sent them $50.00 for no other reason than to help out, that in itself would save the organization and negate the need for it to merge with those photographers.

If there is a need to kick them, lets be above doing it while they are down.

I am amazed that there were not more entries. I thought that there would be HUNDREDS considering all of the talk that I have heard here and on the PPFA OLE.

Friends,
How much longer it takes to establish who won the contest and to publish the final results?! After all there werte only 6 (six) entries, contest was closed on Sept. 1st ...and I have to keep my word http://www.thegrumble.com/framer/ubbs/smile.gif
Please have pity on me and deliver that list for God sake! From where I am, getting to read the Grumbler is a hard task all by itself, leave alone dispatch prizes or messages around... http://www.thegrumble.com/framer/ubbs/frown.gif

I waited til last minute...sent it in with 5 hours to spare only to find it kicked back the next day. I had a few ideas, but not many I have not already voiced over the last few years.

I love the PPFA, but respect other framers' decisions/reasons for not joining or renewing (unless it's the dues) I think that was the point... what can be done to encourage more unity/membership within an existing organization. I have some serious issues with PPFA, especially the manner in which the "alliance/merger" was handled. All things I have concerns with are fixable.

Frame Harbor, At the beginning of the contest it was agreed that the judges would have about a month to decide who the winners where. Also, I don't think that judging the contest was the only thing on their schedule. I am quite certain that everyone involved also has a business to run.

I am grateful for your consolation prizes to the people who did not win anything. I am also very grateful to the judges and Bill for all of the time they where able to donate and being able to squeeze it all into their busy days.

Please be patient, I'm sure every thing will work out to your satisfaction in the end.

JBR,
Sorry, I missed that information. I was torn between my daily duties, in a remote corner of the world, and my fear to somehow miss the boat and appear to be just talking to talk. I'll keep silent and be moving about my business if you are so kind as to send me an E-mail as soon as you have the results in. Thank you.
