I need to find a book conservator. Our usual paper conservator isn't comfortable with the job.
Customer has two matched books from the early 20th century. Their leather bindings are in good shape, but dirty. The gilt is flaking off the pages' edges, and there is mildew on some pages.
Any advice is welcome.

Ask Her.....
She can read and knows what a book is even though she is Canadian!
Truthfully: I highly recommend Rebecca, she has done two beautiful jobs for me.

Thank you for the vote of confidence JeRy, but books are a whole different territory than flat textiles and paper!
The problem with the AIC referal service in this particular case is that "book and paper" is lumped in together, so it might be hard to tell who does what.
I know a local book conservator here in Vancouver, and I have one client who sends his books to England - I'd be happy to share the names, but you'd probably like someone more local. Unfortunately, I'm not in the book network.
The best I can offer is the UpperMidwest Conservation Association in Minneapolis - they may do books, or they may be able to refer you to someone who can. 612-870-3120

Thanks for the replies. Rebecca, I'll call the Upper Midwest Conservation Association, as you suggested.
