View Full Version : Canvas (?) transfers

These were purchased in Ireland (calling all Irish Grumblers) and don't look like the usual canvas transfers. The canvas is very coarse, maybe five threads to the inch, and the print is coated with what appears to be acrylic applied to look like brush strokes. They were rolled up for transport and are consequently too rippled to frame. I THINK I can dry mount them and there's enough extra canvas around the edges to experiment with (Sorry. I meant 'with which to experiment') but I'm worried about the coating standing up under the heat of the press. Has anyone seen transfers like this? Mounted them? I don't think stretcher bars would help, the canvas is very stiff with arcylic and has no give at all. No worries about negating artistic value; they're just posters printed on canvas. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Kit

When I posted my question shortly ago re canvas transfer adhesion, didn't someone mention sticky-board? Is the canvas too coarse for that option? Can you wet-mount and then countermount the back of the substrate? I concur that you should be leery of "melting" in a heatpress whatever is on the top of the piece: I've done that.

We understand that it's acceptable now to end a sentence with a preposition, although my typing fingers leave skidmarks when attempting to do so. With regard to that, we just saw a quote which might apply: "I'm not so worried about what the world is coming to as I am about how fast it's getting there.) http://www.thegrumble.com/framer/ubbs/smile.gif

Holiday cheers to everyone this last week: may you have many jobs if you want them, or none if you don't.
