Hi Folks,
Just introduced myself about 24 hours ago, and 13 replies already- wow !
I subscribe to a Woodworkers BB in the UK, wouldn't get that many replies in a month of Sundays !

Just to answer a few comments :-

Kit - feel free to use the "Charisma bypass" line.

Ron - 4th Digital Still Camera ? - Yeah, it's a bummer, technology is moving so quick it's frightening. As I mentioned, I'm testing an 8 MegaPixel at the moment, and next week I'm attending a training course on the new X3 Chip which is just about ready to turn the Market upside down. (The CCD Chip recognises Colour, means a 1 Megapixel X3, will give resolution similar to a current 4 Megapixel)

JFeig - Wouldn't get rid of the SLR yet, bear in mind a good 35mm Shot scanned in a good Scanner will give results equivalent to about 15 Megapixels. A 5 Megapixel Camera will set you back about £800 over here.

Anne - Scotland, yeah it is a beautiful country, I'm working on my Website at the moment and will let you guys know when it's ready. I've got quite a few Pics of some of the best places, and should be able to put together a decent site.

My first question to the group :-

Would like to buy an Oval Mount cutter, looked at loads of sites over here, but they range from £80 (c. $110) to £120 (c. $150) seems a heck of a lot of money, even when you consider how us Brits get ripped off for everything anyway. Any of you folks know anyone in the US who would post one over to Scotland ?, I'm sure that even with postage costs it would be cheaper.

Cheers folks

I'm assuming that at £80 to £120, you're referring to the "hobbyist" or "D-I-Y" type Oval cutters. <u>Logan (http://www.logangraphic.com/)</u> and Fletcher (http://www.fletcher-terry.com/products/matmate.html) both make models in this price range that work adequately. At that price, you're bound to get a return on the investment in a matter of a few weeks or months!

Most storefront operations typically look to a more "serious" oval mountcutter, but the ROI will obviously be further out - 6 months or longer. There is obviously servious money to be made cutting oval apertures, so don't dismiss a more expense machine.

Back to your question of ordering, however, I'd recommend sourcing out this item from a UK stockist. Lion (http://art-estore.com/tradefair/hallserv/lionsupplies.htm), D.J. Simons (http://art-estore.com/tradefair/hallfram/dandjsimons.htm), Wessex should all have this in stock, and often run special pricing, in particular at the Spring or Autumn Fair.

Regards,

John

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply, I should have stated that it was more the D.I.Y budget type I was looking for. Though I'm a reasonably good woodworker, Picture Framing is quite a new Hobby to me, and I'm starting 'Bit by bit' if you see what I mean.I'll check out that Company and let you know.

Thanks

Martin
