No, not the cushy stuff, like foam or coroplast, but what kind of board do y'all use to actually hinge the artwork onto?
I have always used rag matboard or artcare rag, but is there a board specifically designed to be a substrate, I have been poring over Crescent and Bainbridge lists and all I find is matboard or mounting board.
If nobody makes anything like this, wouldn't it be a good idea? It wouldn't have to be as VISIBLY perfect as matboard, but I think an zeolite/rag/substrate in 2, 4 and 8 ply would be very helpful.....
What do you use?

several months ago our local supplier was dumping Bainbridge board thathad been discontinued. Was able to pick up a couple boxes of gray 8-ply board REALL cheap--like 3 per board. We've been using this for our CP mounting. When that's used up, we alternate between 8-ply and 4-ply Alpharag, the thickness depending upon the size of the project.

Bainbridge makes White and Ivory Artcare Alphamount in 2- and 4-ply. I can't tell you what the difference is between that and Alpharag, but I'll bet somebody can.
I believe I have seen Crescent rag flawboard, though I don't recall where. That would be imperfect board, but presumably fine for mounting.
It seems like I always have discontinued Alpha- or rag mats or my own "store-brand flawboard" around to use for this purpose. Or, inexplicably, I'll end up with 15 sheets of Venetian Garnet Alphamat and I'll use the white side.
A funny little prejudice: Even though I am convinced that Alphamats and rag mats are interchangeable from a c/p standpoint, I prefer to use solid rag mat- or mountboard for backing.

I typically use the Bainbridge AlphaMount boards, usually the white 4-ply. It seems to be stiffer or denser or something.

Posters are drymounted onto Crescent's less expensive CAFX board. It's four ply, and acid free surface, but appears to be paper inside.
Anything good goes onto Bainbridge's four ply AlphaMount, like the other posters. I have the two ply as well, but seldom use it. I fear that it will bow after framing, and I'm unsure of its need.
