I'm fitting a fillet to sit right inside the frame, like a double frame.

There's the 'frame' charge and then there's the 'fillet' charge. My boss wants me to charge a double fit charge, also, for attaching the fillet to the frame. I don't see why...what's the difference between fitting the fillet to the frame or to a mat opening?

We charge a Fillet Assembly Charge of $20. This is above the cost of the fillet. They are time-consuming (although we do so many of them we are becoming quite adept) and the work is very precision the way we do them. It is actually harder, in my opinion, to fit to a frame than to a mat. The main reason is that the mat will give a 'milliscrump' but the frame is what it is, with no room for slop. But it is all a matter of gnat's eyelashes...

In our shop, fitting fillets or liners or mats do not incur a charge over and above the “normal” fitting charge.

we charge $10 for the thicker fillets that need buildups to even out the thickness of the mats

I once had a rep tell us that he recommended charging at least $10 per foot for fillets to help fray the cost of extra labor to install them. Since we do not charge extra labor I thought this was a good idea, even though after all these years it is no big deal for either of us install one. I figure it's a little more cash in the till for our expertise !!!

I seem to be the oposite of most here. Iguess every shop has its own methods and pricing. I don't charge extra for putting a fillet into a frame. Doesn't seem like any more touble than a liner to me and I don't charge extra for that. As pointed out it does need to be cut exactly right but I guess I figure if I can't do that it's not the customers problem. I do charge more for putting one in a mat though as I always fill around it (like doing a spacer between mats, which I also charge for). Often I end up using 1/16 econospace too to keep the top edge of the fillet from rubbing against the glass, especially if it's consevation glass. The charge is set up on a UI scale. The bigger the piece the more I charge.

I charge reg frame markup x the moulding (fillet) purchase price at the Frame UI size regardless of the size of the fillet. This way, I actually get paid the same for a fillet being used inside the mlng as inside the matte. Although I use less material when its a matte fillet I must then use fillers between the mattes!

Work out good for me - I don't charge for fillet fitting.

Which might beg another question - does any one charge extra for a double frame - I don't unless I am modifying something or I forsee it being a tricky job!
