Out of respect for those that have fallen, I say we don't read or post on "The Grumble" on Friday. If you agree with me start at 12:00 midnight tonight Eastern time and remain off the grumble for 24 hours. If you don't agree, what do you think?

Curly, I think that's a noble thought. But I wonder if I'm the only one that looks to The Grumble for emotional support on good days and especially on bad ones. It makes me feel connected to a global community. I don't necessarily think your idea is a bad one. If there appears to be any kind of consensus on this thread, I'll go along with it.

Curly,
I, like Ron, believe that The Grumble gives us all some emotional support that some would otherwise not get. I know there is several TV stations in this area collecting money for the victims of the attacks, why not have everyone on TG contribute $5.00 to one of these funds, in their local area, in the name of The Grumblers.

I agree with Ron and Jerry, in the last few days I have needed the support I find here. This morning I posted the news that tommorrow I have to have one of my elderly cats put to sleep and already two people from the grumble have sent their sympathys. Thank you.

Another example of how The Grumble affects our lives during these troubled times: Yesterday Dermot noticed that, as of about 10:30 a.m., I hadn't posted anything. Naturally, he assumed I was dead, so he called me from Ireland to make sure I was okay. Can you believe it? I hope this doesn't embarass Dermot, but I was both astounded and moved that he would do that. I just wish that I had been available to answer so he didn't have to talk to my machine!

Here's another example: I just called CroatCat's shop in Kansas City to see how he's doing following his surgery. I knew he wouldn't be there, but I guessed someone would be. The surgery confirmed that his Hodgkins has returned. He began chemotherapy today. I'll be checking back weekly. (In case you're wondering, I've never met Dermot or CroatCat face-to-face.)

So Curly, I know your heart is in the right place, but I guess I'll find some other way to mourn tomorrow. I need The Grumble now more than ever.

Ron, I'll be here tommorrow too. After starting the day by having my cat put to sleep, I'll need the grumble!

Our local country music radio station has been playing patriotic songs all day and a different recording of the National Anthem every hour, on the hour today. They have also asked everyong in the DC area to wear red, white and blue tomorrow, drive with our headlights on, and observe a minute of silence to remember the victims Friday (tomorrow) at noon.

Susan matted (in red, white, and blue)and framed (in black)a picture of the Pentagon (given to us by a customer only a couple weeks ago). It is in our shop window with American flags. Many Federal workers eat at the restaurant next to us. They appreciated the display.

curly- I went with you and did not post or lurk yesterday. The events of the last week are deeply troubling and I am amazed at the petty problems people have in spite of what has happened and what may come. Pray for the victims and their loved ones and pray for the future of this country.
