What would you use for a mounting surface for very valuable signed lithographs, worth approx. 15K each? Unless I was told otherwise I would use (first choice) an alpharag foamboard or (second choice) an alpharag barrier on a piece of acid free foamcore.
Have a clue but just wanted to ask.

What I would use:
Alpharag or Alphamount, 'cause I believe the Artcare Zeolite technology actually works or, at the very least, does no harm. Filler would be Coroplast/Polyflute corrugated plastic or, if that was unavailable, Artcare fomeboard or possibly acid-free corrugated. My only objection to the latter is that it tends to make a mess, even when cut with a sharp blade. The Coroplast is very tidy to work with and absolutely inert (as well as moisture-repellant and pretty.)
I used to mount directly on "acid-free fomecore" but no more.

For backing I would use a 6 or 8 ply 100% rag board and keep everything else complete conservation...acid free does not mean conservation or preservation quality and too often is just the backing paper. Do a search under "Orton" and you should come up with several choices.

What a great resource when you just want to be sure. Thank you Ron for your input.
