Hi. I am looking for a simple metal shadow box frame. I thought for sure Nielson would have it. They used to have a 66 profile, but they now have discontinued. All they have is a very small rabbit or a almost 2" rabbit showdow frame. I need a metal with a channel for glass and about 1" rabbit. Any help please??????? It's hard to believe that this would be difficult to find. Also how do I get Jay Golz' book Entrepreneur. Thanx for all the help. Sue.

Street Smart Entreprenuer is advertised in Decor.
Nielsen is making a new profile for shadowboxes I believe it's #100 but won't swear to it. I'm awaiting my samples since I just heard of it.

Nielsen has a great shadow box frame. It has a channel on the bottom for the backboard and a channel at the top for glazing. The spacers are built in. Since spacers take so much time to produce in a shodw box, this moulding saves lots of time. It comes in a black, German Slver and Antique Gold. The profile number is 100. If it's too plain for some boxes, it can be capped with an ornate wooden moulding. Rick, in Idaho, didn't like the way the glass rattled so he took a suede mat, stripped just a small section of the suede off the cor and put it on the outside edge of the glass to act as a cusion.

I believe Designer's 58 is essentially the same although the rabbet is about 1-1/2". There are about five or six colors.

Now you're making me wonder if that Glasgard stuff from Frame Tek won't fix that. I hadn't tried to see if any of it would fit into the rabbet, though.

Nielsen 100 series might be the "almost 2 inch" moulding Suzy mentioned.
That is a really useful profile for things like jerseys and other clothing. We make stock 32x40 frames and sell them with any color backer, a custom-cut/covered matching hanger, and a patch of 3M Dual Lock (far better than Velcro). We also equip them with Designer Moulding's "E-Z Hinge" frame rail hinges for instant access.
FrameTek's GlasGard is a bit too bulky to fit in the glass channel. We use small pieces of Volara (normally used to line frame rabbets for canvas artworks). I like Nona's idea of stripping sued mat, too -- thanks, Nona.
Students who take "The Complete Guide To Shadowboxes and Object Framing" course each get a set of Nielsen #100-21 (matte black) 11x14 chops and hardware, as part of the hands-on segment of the class. They actually build their own take-home shadowboxes with the chops. (They also get an 11x14 Framerica frame & extender).
So far, *everyone* in the classes has praised that new Nielsen profile.
Suzy, I think the aluminum mouldings with glass channels are rare because they are difficult to manufacture. Nielsen had to delay introduction of their 100 series due to production start-up problems. However, everything was worked out and the production seems to be running smoothly.

If memory is serving me correct there was a thread about using 2.5mm glass with the Nelison 100, 2.5mm glass eliminated the glass rattling, I’m pulling this from memory so if I have it wrong would someone correct me.
Get Jay’s book one way or the other it’s a super book and though some of it contents would not apply in Ireland overall it’s a great book for framers who want to run a true business.

That suede idea wasn't mine, I just passed it along. It started with Rick Bergeron in Idaho, a very inventive framer.

I was fooling around with that 100 profile today and the glass is a little loose in it, all right. I can see where Jim said that the Glasgard was too tight a fit, too.
The max glass thickness is listed as 2.5 mm and, I think, 0.095".
I'm not familiar with the hinging product you described, Jim, but that's a great idea about making the package deal for people hanging their own jerseys. I've not heard that one before.
