A wee dram was just what the doctor ordered at the end of a particularly long and crowded holiday parade this weekend. You see, my fellow framers, some of us are more warped then others! Not only do I enjoy a sip of whiskey de temps en temp(only single malt, pleeeeeese!) but actively participate in the spreading of the WORD. In short, I play the pipes (the Great Highland variety)in a band of like minded rowdies.

I half thought about submitting a photo to Ron in full regalia, but I've blown my cover now (no pun intended?).

A virtual toast to Mr Burns on 1-25 (with the real thing)? AYE !

Whisky is great stuff.I knew an old guy who did french polishing and he always had a bottle in his workshop for the cold mornings!

Well he used to take a mouthfull when his shellac started to bloom in the cold and would spit it into the work in progress to thin it out a bit.Needless to say it was probably rubbishy blended stuff and not the good stuff kept in the sideboard for when visitors come.

He also used to cut oval and circle mounts freehand with a scalpel so he obviously wasn`t totally under the influence all day.He could cut those things as well as most of us can do it with a machine.

If you like malt whisky then get yourself a bottle of Lagavulin from Islay.Expensive but worth every penny.

Every year on my birthday I buy myself a bottle of Laphroig - it's a wee bit sharper than the Lagavulin but I like it.

Now that we've all had our dram, did we ever find out why Bill wanted to know if there are any Grumblers from Scotland?

I did a trip to Scotland in May of that year. I was hoping to meet a couple of scottish grumblers in my travels.

Laphroig is one of the few I have never been able to develop a taste for. I have a bottle a friend gave me 5 years ago and it hasn't been opened in almost that long. Are all the Islay whiskeys made in the same manner? I prefer the Highland malts, Balvenie Founders Reserve in particular, but was curious if this was something that had been tailored for the American market?
