With all this talk of cutting slips and fillets ( 01/08/00) I'm left wondering where everyone sits on the subject of slips and the ethics of conservation framing. I have seen in my time as a framer as we all probably have two kinds of slips ie those that sit between two mat boards and those that sit between the mat board and the artwork. I have often wondered at the latter, as I have seen some rather expensive pieces of work done in this maner. The conection between wood pulp used in some matt boards and the wooden fillets, I would assume causes the same problems. Am I just peeing in the wind here or do I have a cause for concern. Regards Bob.

If I ever get caught in your position, I turn around quickly. Use a metalic tape between the fillet and the artwork

What about the poor bloke standing behind you? That could definitly be a cause for concern.

No comment on the one subject, but would mylar tape be as good as a metal tape?

TE, lol you've made my week.
I'd definitely put that slip under the fillet and make sure it's a wide one. ie a good 1/2" offset.
