Would you like to see a chat feature added to the Grumble?

I voted yes, but it would depend on the number of 'chatters' allowable at one time. If it's limited to, say, 6~12, MIRC is still the best deal.
I don't get any kickback from MIRC, but it's the best chat-room going, as far as I'm concerned. Plus, it doesn't cost framer anything to maintain, and take up additional server space.
Just my 2 cents.

Would it not be possible to add a few different rooms to allow Grumblers the opportunity to move from room to room if one is too crowded?

al long as we would not lose too much info on these threads, which are great to read when we want, and for later reference

I voted "Yes", but the majority of grumblers are not on the correct side of the planet so I don't suppose they will want to be chatting at the time they are normally asleep!
Will they??? graemlins/shrug.gif

Hey, Osgood! I've been known to "Chat" with Jim Daley. I belive that he is in your time zone. I know that it was late for me, but it was about 9:00 AM for him. Not too bad.
If we find you worth talking to, we will find the time! (You just let me know when you are going to be online, and I'll be there!) ;)

By 9:00 am weekdays I am slaving over a hot workbench, not a hot keyboard, but I hope we can chat sometime.
You will probably find I'm not worth talking to anyway. I'm a boring little tick, you know!
Hooroo!

That may be a pretty good idea about MIRC, Charles. I would suspect that a chat room is a lot harder to maintain than a BB but don't know for certain how that works.
One thing I've noticed is the new "recent visitors" line at the top of the page. It would be nice to say howdy to someone who was on at the same time, but not if it's a big hassle to administer.

po',
As I recall, the MIRC rooms have Channel Operators that moderate the chat. It can have as many ops as the originator chooses. If there's no op present, it has a 'bot' that enforces the basic rules. No profanity, etc.
I'm not computer literate enough to figure out how to set one up, but someone like, say, Ron or Jerry or Tom might be....
And no, I don't get a kickback from MIRC. I just used it a lot a few years back, and it worked really, really good.
It's not expensive, it's a one-time expenditure of, I think, around 20~30 bucks. I don't know, and so far, no one's said, whether the G will support a chat feature. If it would, how much more would it cost framer? That's my reason for liking MIRC. We used to have as many as 25 or 30 guys on there. It's dependant on courtesy. You wait your turn to 'talk', but you can also open up private chats and send and receive pictures, files, etc, while chatting.
It's worthh a look.

I don't know, Charles. I've been on MS IM with four other Grumblers, sometimes including you, and it's almost more than my old ticker can handle. That picture of my shoes up on the desk was me during a 5-Grumbler session* (the max for MS IM) and I finally had to put my feet up and take a break to stop laughing. So I took a picture. I think we were talking about the proposed (at that time) PPFA/PMA merger or conservation glazing options.
*To clarify: I didn't mean to imply that MS IM could handle more than 5 non-Grumblers. I'm pretty sure the limit is five for everyone.
