When customers come in the store asking for picture hooks we just give them to them N/C with a business card and cheerfull explain that they then need to come back with their next framing job.
A guy who we had given several to just stopped back and explained it was because we had given him the hooks. He paid in full up front for his $500 frame order. This is not the first time people have come back.

I do the same, and I have added wire, and some other misc. quick jobs at N/C. When they ask how much, I tell them to just come back when they need framing. People don't expect to get something free, and it makes an impression on them that is lasting.
Goodwill is worth thousands down the road! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

We have had the same thing too, many times...
"I told you I'd be back. I hope you don't mind that I brought my sister too. We both have things to frame... Thanks again!"

we hve a decorated Mason jar for those who inisist on paying for little stuff like that. The jar is designated for one of our charities--this month it's Canine Companions for Independence who train ADA-certified assistant dogs--and they can drop a donation into that.
We change the charity from time to time. We then send a check to the charity at the end of the month.
Usually, though, we just give it with a smile and amazing how people remember that.

A while back a lady that we framed several pieces for called, nearly hysterical, saying "You didn't give us a hanger-thing on that last one, how am I supposed to hang it now??" It was just overlooked, and she didn't want to come all the way back into town to pick one up. Her husband had a novel idea...we can get those at the grocery store in the hardware section! She said "But they're not as good as the frame shop ones!" So...he made the trip all the way back into town to pick up one of our "special" ones (btw, same as the one at the grocery!)so they could hang that last one before their company arrived. I gave him several, just in case we ever forgot one in the future. Ya gotta love 'em!

This is where we have the edge over BB operations. No corporate big wig telling us what we can and can not give to our customers to create good will. We've seen the results working very nicely for us and will continue the practice.
