I'm sure this has been covered a million times, but I did a search and couldn't find the right info. I'm looking to insure my business properly. I am concerned about insuring customers work that I damage myself, not stuff that gets burned in a fire. My homeowners ins., who also insures businesses (by the way, my shop is on my property), said all he can do is a Bailees policy, which, after I read it, does not cover stuff I damage while I'm working on it. I contacted Meadowbrook and none of their companies will give me a quote because of the fact that our local fire company is volunteer, and is 6 miles away (which I think is absurd, on the part of the insurers). So, now what? What type of policy insures stuff that I accidentally rip or ruin myself?

framinzfun;you need to learn to use the search feature a little better. I put in Insurance ,but I remebered Rob Markoff had some very definet views on the subject so i installed his name at the bottomof the search window. the result was;

But I am sure that there aremore and you should read the entire thread. IMHO what you are asking a bout is called "Care,Custody and Control" and it covers more than damage you may cause.

I remember reading that post. Thanks, Buddy. My insurance guy claims that care, custody, and control does not cover damage that I do to the art... he is with Erie, and I know that one of the shops I worked for before used Erie, and was covered for this. So, is the agent wrong? Maybe I should have him send me the policy so I can read it myself... because he also told me the Bailees policy covered customer art that I damage, and clearly it doesn't....
Maybe time for a new agent!

Framinzfun if you rad rob's reply he also warned that in Insurance markets like his in southern California you may need to ask for ;
Also ask if the policy covers "marring and scratching." You need to use the specific wording in the quotes.
in addition to Care,Custody and Control. He also gave the names of a few Insurance comapnys to try to use. Most of the desired ones are sold through Meadowbrook the PPFA endorsed agency . And used to be offered through Capax of Modesto california ,but Meadowbrook was a better savings when lasy i used either. It was worth the cost od my PPFA dues and some to use Meadowbrook over Capax and they sold the same companies Policies.

I used CAPX before PMA/PPFA merger. Meadowbrook didn't want by business because of a non-framing business & a framing business (read two policies). I'm still with CAPAX for both and find them competitive for this area. graemlins/kaffeetrinker_2.gif

I am Not disputing your post I am just making sure I undersatand what you are saying.
By" non-framing business & a framing business (read two policies)" are you saying you needed coverage for two different businesses and one wasn't Framing related so Meadowbrook refused BOOTH coverages or are you saying because they wouldn't cover the non-framing business you choose Capax?
In a way I am not surprised if it was the latter. Capax originally claimed they were giving a special rate to all PPFA Frame shops in fact the Coverage was originally called "Frame-It" then it was also discovered that if you were a frame shop it didn't matter if you were a PPFA member or not you got the same rate. Then I got a much cheaper rate from the same COMPANY ( the key is same companys, different companys do have different rates with every agency,Meadowbrook or Capax) .Now you say Meadowbrook won't cover Non framers .This could just be a GOOD thing if you think about the previous scenario.It could be that their rates are special and only for Framers and maybe for PPFA in preference to all others which is what Capax originally said they would do but didn't.
By the way Capax is HQ out of Modesto ,California so you should have easy access for anything they offer.

They sent a non-renew notice because one of the businesses was not framing. The same corporation owns both businesses. I think they may have been confused by the corporation's name, Sparks Literacy Center, Inc. and didn't bother to call and discuss this? Anyway CAPAX understood/understands the situation & I've had no problems working with them. It also probably helps that they're located in this part of the country, as well?
